    Common Lung Conditions

Understanding, Managing and Treating Respiratory Health

Lung conditions can significantly impact your quality of life, but with the right diagnosis and treatment, managing these conditions is possible. At Pulmo Vista Clinics, we specialise in the treatment and management of a wide range of common lung conditions, offering personalised care and advanced therapies to help you breathe easier and live better.

    Asthma

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition  where the airways become inflamed and narrowed, making it difficult to breathe.

    Causes

    • Wheezing
    • Shortness of breath
    • Chest tightness
    • Coughing

Allergens, smoke, exercise, or environmental changes can trigger asthma. With the right treatment plan, asthma can be managed effectively, allowing patients to lead a normal, active life.

    Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases

COPD is a progressive lung disease that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

    Causes

    • Airflow blockage
    • Breathing difficulties

often due to long-term exposure to irritants like tobacco smoke. Symptoms include chronic cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and frequent respiratory infections. COPD can worsen over time, but with proper care, medications and lifestyle changes, patients can manage symptoms and improve their quality of life.

    Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs,

    Causes

    • Fatigue
    • Chest pain
    • Shortness of Breath
    • Cough
    • Fever

Pneumonia can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi and can range from mild to life-threatening, especially in older adults or those with weakened immune systems. Early treatment is crucial and with proper care, most people recover from pneumonia fully.

    Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which a person’s breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, leading to disrupted rest and decreased oxygen levels. The most common type is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), where the airway becomes blocked, causing loud snoring and choking sensations. It can result in fatigue, irritability and difficulty concentrating. Treatment options include lifestyle changes, CPAP machines, and in some cases, surgery.

    Pulmonary Fibrosis

Pulmonary fibrosis is a condition where lung tissue becomes scarred, leading to difficulty breathing and reduced oxygen intake. This progressive disease can be caused by long-term exposure to pollutants, certain medications, and autoimmune diseases. Symptoms include shortness of breath, persistent dry cough, and fatigue. Although it’s a serious condition, treatments such as medication, oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation can help manage symptoms and slow disease progression.

    Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is one of the most common and serious types of cancer, often diagnosed at an advanced stage. It typically starts in the lungs and can spread to other parts of the body. Smoking is the primary risk factor, though non-smokers can also develop lung cancer. Symptoms can include a persistent cough, chest pain, unexplained weight loss and blood in sputum. Early detection through screening and prompt treatment are essential for better outcomes. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and targeted therapies.
